OBITUARY: Stanley Martin Stokes

Stanley Martin Stokes, age 61 of Eldorado, passed away Friday, June 20, 2014, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

He was born on Dec. 21, 1952, in Harrisburg to Hillis and Virginia (Jones) Stokes. On Aug. 27, 1976, he married Sue (McConnell) Stokes who survives. He was an active member of Little Chapel Church of Harrisburg which he dearly loved. He had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior when he was a young boy and had served him faithfully every day since. Stan loved to witness/tell everyone how great his God is and how he had watched over him through all the trials of life. He touched a lot of lives with his daily attitude of joy no matter what was happening in his own. He had worked hard his entire life to ensure that his family and friends were taken care of and has now been blessed with his reward in heaven.

Stanley is survived by his wife: Sue; daughters: Amanda Stokes and Beth (Adam) Hughes; brother: Brad (Julia) Stokes; grandchildren: Brooklyn and Nathan Hughes; nephews: Matthew (Sarah) Beaver, Jarred (Kristy) Beaver, John Vinyard and Aaron (Autumn) Vinyard; nieces: Delena Stokes, Megan (Brian) Sinks; great-nieces and -nephew: Chloe, Caitlin, Courtney and Raylan; sisters-in-law: Carol (Steve) Wallace and Jean (Richard) Vinyard. He was privileged to still have his parents, Hillis and Virginia Stokes, living and loved to spend time with them.

Stanley was preceded in death by his in-laws: Eugene and Virginia McConnell; and a great-niece: Claire Beaver.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Little Chapel Church on 3859 state Route 34 North, Harrisburg. Burial will follow at Tates Chapel Cemetery out of Galatia. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Little Chapel Church designated to the Liberty Fest Fund in his honor.
