OBITUARY: Marjorie Atkinson York
Marjorie Atkinson York, age 92, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, St. Louis, Mo.
Marjorie was born on June 12, 1921, in Equality in Gallatin County to the late James Elmer "Shorty" and Caroline Hicks Atkinson. On Aug. 9, 1939, she married Charles Floyd York and he preceded her in death on June 25, 1986. He was a World War II Navy Veteran serving in the Philippines. She attended McKinley Avenue Baptist Church for 40 years.
Marjorie is survived by two children: Ronald (Janis) Floyd York of Harrisburg, and Elaine Case Alsobrook of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren: Gary Wayne Case of St. Louis, Mo., David York of Harrisburg, Jeffrey (Amy) York of Tennessee, Linda (Chuck) Medlin of Paducah, Ky., and Marsha Ann York of Evansville, Ind.; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; great-nephew: Billy Partain of Rhode Island.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Atkinson Partain, who died in 1962.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Memorials may be made to the McKinley Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
