Jackson Falls plummet sends woman to hospital

A woman suffered a fall in the popular recreation area of Jackson Falls Sunday which required her to be air-lifted for medical treatment.

The woman was hiking in the recreation area when she fell of a cliff. Pope County Sheriffs Office, Pope County Ambulance Service and ultimately a Med-Evac helicopter were required to transport the woman, who sustained serious injuries in the incident.

Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits said Monday the fall occurred in a remote area of Jackson Falls and responding units had to use all-terrain vehicles and also travel on foot to reach the victim.

"It is always unfortunate when something like this happens." Suits said. "People are out to enjoy the woods and then have an accident. Fortunately, the woman was not killed."

Suits stated that in situations like this, the sheriffs office sometimes doesn't even get the name of the victim.

"We just try to get to them as fast as we can and do all we can to help," Suits told the Daily Register.

Suits stated that his department was unsure as to what hospital the victim was transported.
