OBITUARY: William Eugene "Gene" Mott

William Eugene "Gene" Mott, 85 of Galatia, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014, at 10:35 a.m. in the VA Nursing Home in Marion.

He was born on June 23, 1928, in Paragould, Ark., to the late Otto and Beulah (Littell) Mott. Gene married Marjorie (Karnes) Mott on Nov. 4, 1952. He grew up in Union County, Ky., and graduated from the Galatia High School in 1948. Gene was a Korean War Veteran in the US Army and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He retired from the US Steel-American Bridge Division as a pipefitter after 28 years. He also managed the Galatia Water Department and water facilities for 11 years and was the First Class II waste water operator. He was a member of the Bankston Fork Baptist Church.

Surviving is a son, William Gale (Kerry) Mott; two daughters, Leisa Ann (Russell) Capellari and Laura Jean (David) Short; four grandchildren, Julie (Steve) Capellari-Beiswanger, Shannon (Tony) Mott-Rivera, Russell Capellari Jr. and Lauren short; five great-grandchildren Jordan Beiswanger, Elizabeth Beiswanger, Miranda Beiswanger, Andrew Rivera and Tyler Rivera; and a sister Mabel Aileen Montgomery.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with visitation 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014. The Rev. David Gilley and the Rev. David Smith will officiate with burial in the Webber Campground Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bankston Fork Baptist Church Building fund.
