OBITUARY: Donald L. Duncan

Donald L. Duncan, age 81 of Harrisburg, died at his home 1:30 a.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014, after battling cancer.

Donald was born at home to Wade and Geneva (Hays) Duncan in Harrisburg on Sept. 20, 1932. He retired from the United States Air Force at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant after a 30-year career. He was a Korean and Vietnam War veteran, serving four tours in Vietnam. He retired from his second career at Boeing Aviation in 1993 and returned to Harrisburg to pursue his hobby of genealogy and became a purple martin caretaker. He volunteered at the Saline County Geneological Society Library for many years and shared his passion for genealogy by assisting others in their research.

Donald was survived by his wife, Masuko of Harrisburg; Wade (Mindy) Duncan of West Frankfort; one daughter, Donna (Bill) Pinkston of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Sara Beth (Jeremy) Johnson, Kent Duncan, Megan (Justin) Owens, Matthew (Cassie) Pinkston and Jason Pinkston; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jim Coker of Arlington, Texas; a host of nieces and nephews; cousins; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his only sister, Barbara (Duncan) Coker; one uncle and three aunts.

There will be a private family burial with no visitation at Donald's request. J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Donald's name to the Wounded Warrior Project and Disabled American Veterans.
