James Rebhorn, Veteran Character Actor and Homeland Star, Dies at 65

James Rebhorn, the prolific character actor who most recently had recurring roles on Homeland and White Collar , died Friday at his home in New Jersey, according to The Hollywood Reporter . He was 65.

TMZ reports that Rebhorn died of skin cancer.

Born in Philadelphia, Rebhorn appeared in more than 100 films, TV shows and plays throughout his career. Most recently, he played Frank Mathison, the father of Claire Danes' character, Carrie, on Homeland, as well as Special Agent Reese Hughes on White Collar. He also had roles on 30 Rock , Third Watch , Law & Order and Seinfeld, where he played the district attorney who sends Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer to jail in the series finale.

Rebhorn's best known film roles include headmaster Mr. Trask in Scent of a Woman , expert witness George Wilbur in My Cousin Vinny , Secretary of Defense Albert Nimzicki in Independence Day and Dr. Larry Banks in Meet the Parents , in which he memorably chastises Ben Stiller, "It's only a game, Focker!"

His other film credits include The Talented Mr. Ripley and Far From Heaven .

Rebhorn is survived by his wife Rebecca and two daughters.
