Prep Softball: Harrisburg holds off Hardin County

Behind a strong performance from University of Tennessee Martin signee Hanna Jones, Harrisburg shut out Hardin County 4-0 Thursday.

Jones, who has signed on to pitch for the Skyhawks next season, pitched a three hitter, striking out four and walking two.

Jones faced just 25 batters helping Harrisburg to a season opening victory.

The Bulldogs were led in hitting by McKenzie Sullivan, who in the leadoff position, went 2-for-3. Brittany Reynolds went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs, while Jones finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.

In the first inning, Sullivan led off with with a single and advanced to second on an Ashley Ferrell sacrifice bunt. After Jones walked, Sullivan stole third and then stole home on a wild pitch.

Harrisburg scored another run in the third inning, when Sullivan reached and scored on a double by Reynolds.

In the fifth, the Bulldogs plated two more runs when Sullivan roped a one-out single and stole second. With two outs, Jones' base knock scored Sullivan and Morgan Colbert (running for Jones), scored on a base hit by Reynolds.

Harrisburg returns to action Saturday in their own Invitational. The Bulldogs will play Century at 11 a.m. and then play Galatia-Thompsonville at 2:30 p.m.
