Prep Softball: Galata-Thompsonville trumps Johnston City

The Galatia-Thompsonville softball squad started the season off with a strong performance against Johnston City.

The Bearcats roped out 16 hits, while Larissa Bond (1-0) got the win in the circle for Galatia-Thompsonville, who knocked off Johnston City 19-3.

Bond went three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, while striking out two and walking three.

Emily Reed led the Bearcats at the plate as the Murray State University signee finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Bond was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Elizabeth Sloan finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Katie Jones went 1-for-3, providing the first home run of the season for Galatia-Thompsonville and tacked on four RBIs.

Galatia scored eight runs in the second inning, taking advantage of multiple errors by the Indians, while tacking on five runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth inning.

Galatia-Thompsonville head coach Kevin Lewis knew that hitting was going to be his team's strong suit this season, but he didn't expect the bats would come alive so early in the season.

"One through nine in the lineup, we really hit the ball well today," Lewis said. "Everyone in the lineup had a hit and Johnston City isn't the Johnston City team they have been in the past, but they're still a good squad and we're happy to post a win against a quality 2A team."

Galatia-Thompsonville will be a part of this weekend's Harrisburg Invitational. The Bearcats will play Century at 12:30 p.m., followed with a game against the host Bulldogs at 2 p.m.
