OBITUARY: Marjorie Thomas

Marjorie Thomas, 96 of Maunie, surrounded by family, peacefully joined her loved ones in heaven, Friday night, 10:20 p.m. March 14, 2014.

She was born on May 3, 1917, in Emma Township, the daughter of Green and Edna (Tower) Huff. She married Arch Thomas on Oct. 24, 1941, in Clayton, Mo., and he preceded her in death on July 11, 2007. Marjorie, commonly known as "Nanny" spent her time on this earth selflessly giving her being to others. She will be remembered as a loving and dutiful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. Nanny lived a simple, purpose-driven life. She understood that it is the small things in life, like Sunday drives and homemade ice cream that matters most. Nanny enjoyed reading, gardening, nurturing and spending quality time with those she loved. She made a difference in the lives she touched. She will be greatly missed by all.

She will be dearly missed and always loved by one devoted daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Jim Collins of Harrisburg; two appreciative granddaughters, Amy (Alan) Burgener of Marion and Andrea (Steven) Reyes of Chicago; one great-grandson, her ray of sunshine, Alex Thomas Burgener, as well as, soon to be, Baby Reyes.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Lee; three brothers, Noble, Cort, and Phillip Huff; three sisters, Hazel Kilmer, Fern Lee and Rhoda Bryant.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Marshall Ferry Cemetery.
