BOYS BASKETBALL: Falcons knocked out by Trico
Five Pioneers finished in double figures on Tuesday night as Trico took out Elverado 72-41 in the quarterfinal round of the Class A Boys Basketball Regional tournament at Goreville after putting the game out of reach by halftime.
An 11-0 run in the first quarter created some separation on the scoreboard for the Pioneers as 6'6 Chase Rednour used his size advantage to tally eight points in the opening eight minutes, leading Trico to a 16-8 edge.
The Pioneers really turned up the heat in the second period, racing to a 28-10 difference in the quarter to go into halftime up 44-18.
Rednour (12 first-half points) and Jordan Jones (13) had both reached double digits in the scoring column by the break.
Rednour finished with a game-high 18 points, Jones had 16, Ryan Stromeyer 14, Kyle Hammel 12 and Ryan Myers 10.
For the Falcons, Eli Fennell topped the scoresheet with 13 points. Tyler Funk, who was handed the difficult task of guarding Rednour on the inside, finished with 9 points before fouling out. Anthony Kirk and Alec Valerius each added 6 points, Ethan Keller 4 and Justin Sarensen 3.
The Pioneers will move on to face Zeigler-Royalton in the semifinals on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Goreville.
