Two hurt in Route 13 accident
Two people were taken to the hospital following a two-car accident at the Bill Franks Way state Route 13 bypass and Poplar Street in Harrisburg Friday.
Saline County Central Dispatch received several 9-1-1 calls reporting a two-car accident with injuries at 12:16 p.m. Saline County Deputies assisted the Harrisburg Police Department with the accident, according to a release from Sheriff Keith Brown. Saline County EMS transported the drivers of both vehicles to Harrisburg Medical Center. One driver had serious injuries, according to the release.
Harrisburg Police Chief Bob Smith said Monday the report was not completed and the investigating officer was off duty until Wednesday. He said the last names of the people involved were Futch and Prairie.
Opie's Towing and Bishop's Towing assisted with the accident.
This location has been the site of numerous accidents in the past year. It was the location of a wreck Feb. 14 that did not result in serious injury.
Mayor Ron Crank has requested Illinois Department of Transportation install a traffic signal at the intersection, but IDOT disagrees that a signal is needed, according to a letter Crank received from the agency.
