OBITUARY: Claude Allen "Woody" Woods

Claude Allen "Woody" Woods was born on Feb. 7, 1938, in Elizabethtown, to Ersel and Lenora Woods. In the early 1940s Lenora and her two children moved to Harrisburg.

At an early age Claude became a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church in Harrisburg. He attended Lincoln School and Harrisburg High, and later joined the Air Force. In 1955, he joined the United States Air Force where he served as a Military Policeman in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1961.

He married Barbara Jones in 1962 and to this union one child was born, his loving daughter, Tammy.

He worked as a senior auto mechanic for Long Chevrolet, until the closure of the shop. After which time, he became a long distance truck driver and mechanic for J.B. Hunt and Schneider Truck Lines.

He was a member of the Masons, an avid bowler, and loved to work on any type of engine -- small or large. One of his most memorable phrase was "More or Less." Woody departed this life on Wednesday morning, Feb. 19, 2014.

Claude was preceded in death by his newborn son, Austin and his parents.

He leaves to cherish his memory a faithful, loving daughter, Tammy Thomas of Atlanta, Ga.; one grandson, Kristopher Thomas of Atlanta, Ga.; one devoted, loving, and very supportive sister, Laura (John) Cade of Broadview; one niece, Steffani (Glenn) Langston of The Woodlands, Texas; and his very special friends, Jack and Mildred Keene of Carrier Mills.

He will be dearly missed by his beloved companion canine J.T.; three special cousins, Iva, Betty and Sharon; and a host of other cousins and friends.
