OBITUARY: Felicia Mae Bonali Hearn
Felicia Mae Bonali Hearn left this world on Feb. 16, 2014, at Park Place of Elmhurst after a long illiness.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1928, in Freeman Spur to Vincent and Josie (Amati) Bonali. After graduating from Herrin High School, she attended St. John's Nursing School in St. Louis, earning her registered nurse degree. On Feb. 7, 1953, she married Emmett Hearn, who preceded her in death.
She was proud of being a nurse and practiced it for over 40 years in Herrin, Carmi and Harrisburg. She worked in surgery, served as head of the ambulatory care unit at Harrisburg Hospital and also was a rural home health care nurse. She drove all over several counties in Southern Illinois in all kinds of weather caring for people and even administering chemotherapy in their homes. She showed great courage and compassion to those who needed her.
With her husband, Emmett, she co-owned and operated Hearn Pharmacy in Carrier Mills. She loved nursing, crossword puzzles, books, history, movies, her beloved St. Louis Cardinals baseball and most of all her family.
Survivors include her daughters Kathryn (Francis) Guinan, Julie Hearn and Regina (Mason) Bryant; grandson, Liam Guinan; granddaughter, Jessica (Amitojpal) Singh; great-granddaughter, Sophia Singh; sister-in-law, Faye Prather; and several nieces and nephews.
Felicia was also preceded in death by her parents; her dear sister, Gloria Bonali; and a brother, William Bonali.
She wished to be cremated, and her ashes will be interred in a private graveside service at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin.
There will be no visitation at her request.
