OBITUARY: Dr. Roy L. Clark Sr.

Dr. Roy L. Clark Sr., 85 of Skull Valley, Ariz., passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at home.

He was born March 14, 1928, in Freeman Spur, the son of Walter Homer and Ethel Bell Gladden Clark.

Dr. Clark has spent the bulk of his adult life in academia. He received his masters of science and doctorate of philosophy degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in speech and communication. He lived for 15 years in Germany - four of those years in the in the U.S. Army's "Army Security Agency," where he was a Russian Linguist. Upon returning to America, Dr. Clark taught at SIU Carbondale, Howard University in Washington D.C., Towson State University in Towson, Md. After he retired the first time, he taught at Essex Community College in Baltimore, Md., and Mesa Community College in Mesa, Ariz. Upon his last retirement, he achieved a lifelong dream of writing novels.

He is survived by Joan Ellard, his fiance; two brothers, William Clark and Samuel Clark of Chicago; myriad nieces and nephews; his five children, Ade' Ngano, Boris and Django Clark, Roy Clark Jr. and Cheryl Wagner; their children and grandchildren.

Roy chose to have his body donated to science and will be cremated after research. The family will celebrate Roy's life during warmer weather and his final remains will be interred in Phoenix, Ariz., at the National Cemetery.
