OBITUARY: Gay Randolph Hull
Gay Randolph Hull, 92, of Harrisburg passed away on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at her residence in Harrisburg.
Gay was born on July 6, 1921, to Hiram and Omah (Jackson) Randolph in Pope County. She graduated from Harrisburg High School with the class of 1939. In 1941, she went to Washington D.C. to work for the FBI. During her service with the FBI she was honored by J. Edgar Hoover for her work with war time espionage and counter espionage, receiving a certificate for this service from Hoover on Oct. 26, 1942. On March 6, 1945, she married Bill "Jr." Hull. They bought a house in Dorrisville where she lived until her death. Two daughters were born of the union, Linda Lou Hull and Mary Ann Hull. She was raised in the church and became a member of the Dorrisville Baptist Church at an early age, transferring membership to Washington when she moved there. She has been a continuing member of Dorrisville Baptist since returning to Harrisburg in 1945.
She worked as a secretary receptionist at Harrisburg Wholesale and then Smith Packing Company. She was a clerk at the County Clerk's office under Maynard Cannon and the First Deputy under David Phelps and Jim Fowler. After retiring from the County Clerk's office, she worked "extra" in several of the county offices.
She was Precinct Committeeman for Harrisburg 5, taking over the position on the death of her husband and remaining until health forced her to retire. She was the oldest member of the Elder Board of Vinyard Indian Settlement.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Hiram and Omah Jackson Randolph; her husband, Bill "Jr." Hull; her daughter, Linda Lou Hull; grandson, Joshua Michael Rivera; brother, Waive Randolph; sisters, Happy Randolph Locklear and Gloria Randolph Small; brother-in-laws, Harold Locklear, Bert Small, Bill Cook, Wayne Moore, Bob Hull, Leroy Hull, Paul Hull, Floyd Hull, Norman Hull and Clarence Boer; sisters-in-law, Callie Hull Boer, Roslee Hull, Phyllis Hull, Mary Tyler Hull, Viola Hull Miller; and a special nephew, Mike Small.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Hull Rivera of Harrisburg; grandchildren, William Ryan Stevers (Tom Radtke) of Philadelphia, Pa., Mary Katherine Stevers Moore (Keith) of Nashville, Tenn., and Vanessa Ward Mason (Jay) of Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Joy Randolph Moore of Kankakee and Geraldine Randolph Cook of Tucson, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Jones Randolph of Evansville, Ind., and sister-in-law and cousin, Ruby Stafford Hull of Harrisburg; great-grandchildren, Spec 4 Tadeusz James Evans (2nd Lt. Amber Evans) of Anchorage, Alaska, Morgan Evans of Harrisburg, Alexander James Stevers-Radtke of Philadelphia, Pa., Justin Alexander Mason and Ashleigh Nicole Mason of Orlando, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Brent Holloway will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel.
