OBITUARY: Virgil E. Willis

Virgil E. Willis, 84, of Eldorado, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado.

He was born in Tulu, Ky., on Oct. 26, 1929, to the late Austin and Essie (Clark) Willis. He was a truck driver and was in the trucking industry for 35 years. He was a member of the Eldorado Gospel Assembly Church for 55 years where he was very active. He served many years as trustee, youth leader and in the maintenance at the church.

On Nov. 28, 1951, he married the former Joyce Denton and she survives in Eldorado. Also surviving is a son, Wayne (Beverly) Willis of Eldorado. He is also survived by four grandchildren: James (Stephanie) Willis of Eldorado, Jeremy Willis of Atlanta, Ga., Destiny (Dan) Baer of Youngstown, Ohio, and Brock (Heather) Willis of DuQuoin; and seven great-grandchildren: Becca, Austin of Eldorado, Danielle and Halli Baer of Youngstown, Ohio, and Katlyn, Brooklyn and Addison Willis of DuQuoin. He is also survived by four brothers: Frank (Judy) Willis, Guthrie (Gayla) Willis, Leonard (Wanda) Willis and Roger (Barbara) Willis and two sisters, Maxine Willis Maddox and Janice (Marvin) Rash. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Donnie Willis, four brothers: Charles, James, Neal and Winford "Wimp" and preceded by three sisters, Mona Willis (Infant), Ava Burch and Freda Mason.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at the Eldorado Gospel Assembly Church with the Rev. LD Jolly and the Rev. Dan Baer officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at the Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado.
