OBITUARY: Beverly Ruth Jenner
Beverly Ruth Jenner, 86, formerly of Harrisburg, died on Oct. 21, 2013, at Prairie Living at Chautauqua in Carbondale.
She was born on Nov. 21, 1926, to Henry Herbert and Thelma Clara (Purdy) Gough in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
Beverly grew up in Chicago. She graduated from Foreman High School in Chicago on Jan. 26, 1945. After high school, she worked for several firms in Chicago as a secretary until she met and married Robert R. Jenner on March 27, 1948, in Chicago. They were happily married for 65 ½ years and were parted only a few days at the end of her life. He preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 2013.
After her children were in school Beverly rejoined the workforce and was employed by Cinco Medical Health Supply, the Harrisburg Public School System, WSIL-TV and Wilson Insurance, all in Harrisburg.
Beverly created many pieces of fine embroidery and was a creative seamstress and homemaker. She loved bird watching and was especially adept at spotting hawks perched in odd places along the highway. She instilled a love of reading in her children and was better than Google at remembering odd facts about literary characters, popular music, and, especially, character actors in old television programs and movies. Her memory remained sharp until her death.
Beverly is survived her daughter, Lorie (Howard) Allen of Carbondale; her grandchildren, Nathan (Amy) Stahl of Oradell, N.J., and Sarah (Chad) Caldwell of Houston, Texas; her brother, William Gough of Hawthorn Woods; her sister, Jenneine (Daniel) Wrobleski of Summerfield, Fla.; and her sister, Gloria (Michael) Buckley of Ocala, Fla.; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family wishes to express its appreciation for the nurses and staff of TIP of Illinois Hospice who provided care and support for Beverly and Bob during the last months of their lives.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her daughters, Ellen Maureen Stahl and Gail Ann Jenner; her sister, Marjorie Bartok; and her parents.
Cremation rites will be accorded, and private services will be held at a later date in Richardson Hill Cemetery in Dahlgren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to TIP of Illinois Hospice, 702 Chestnut St., Murphysboro, IL 629666; and/or Friends of the Cache River Watershed, 8885 Illinois 37, Cypress, IL 62923.
