OBITUARY: Wilma Alice Maynard
Wilma Alice Maynard, 94, of 202 B W. State St., Harrisburg, died 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Wilma Alice was born on Dec. 28, 1918, to William Andrew and Daisy Belle Pinkstaff on their family farm in Mitchellsville. At the age of 16, she married the boy next door, Clyde Santy. They had two sons, Frank Andrew and Randall Lee. Wilma was tragically widowed at the age of 24, during the height of World War II. She went to work at an ammunitions factory, helping with the war effort.
Wilma married Joe Maynard, a boxer and coal miner, in 1947. They had two sons, Larry Gene and Michael Edward, and a daughter, Deborah. She worked at The Downtowner Beauty Salon in Harrisburg. During the 1960's she began working at Plaza Fashions in Harrisburg as store manager and buyer. She loved fashion and was a popular saleslady. She retired when the store closed in 1990.
She enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening and spending time with her family. Wilma had many friends and loved to laugh and have fun. She had a colorful personality and a wonderful sense of humor. She will be remembered by all who met her. She was truly one of a kind. She was proud to be able to spend her final years in her own home, with the help of her daughter Deborah, son Michael, and granddaughter Shannon.
Wilma is survived by sons, Michael Maynard of Stonefort, Randall Santy of Lowell, Ind.; daughter, Deborah Kohl (Maynard) of Harrisburg; daughters-in-law, Marlena Santy of Fishers, Ind., Sue Santy of Lowell, Ind.; stepson, Terry Maynard and wife Lynda of Harrisburg; sister, Elva Joyce (Pinkstaff) of Monument, Colo.; grandchildren, LeAnna D'Orio (Santy), of Chicago, Shannon Kohl of Harrisburg, Nathan Kohl of Olathe, Kansas, Steve Santy of Lowell, Ind., Cheryl Austgen (Santy) of Lowell, Ind.; two great-grandchildren; seven nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Clyde Santy and Joe Maynard; children, Frank Santy and Larry Maynard; sisters, Martha Pinkstaff, Lottie Wagin, Estelee Tuttle, Ruth Haas, Laura Kent, and Lillian Lanham; brothers, Williams Pinkstaff Jr. and Harley Pinkstaff; grandsons, David Irving and David Santy; and three nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery near Eldorado.
