Paula Deen Fired as Spokeswoman for Diabetes Drug

Paula Deen has been fired as the spokeswoman for the diabetes drug maker Novo Nordisk, TMZ reports.

A spokesperson for the company told TMZ it was a mutual decision "while [Deen] takes time to focus her attention where it is needed."

Novo Nordisk joins several other companies that severed ties with Deen amid the controversy over her use of racial slurs. Target, Home Depot, Walmart, Caesars Entertainment, Smithfield pork company and Food Network have already dumped the celebrity chef. Her deal with QVC is also under review.

Deen came under fire when she first announced her relationship with Novo Nordisk because she diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2009, but continued to promote sugar-heavy dishes until her public admission in 2012.
