OBITUARY: Verdeen Shounk

Verdeen Shounk, age 90, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at U.W. Hospital Madison surrounded by her family.

She was born on Feb. 16, 1923, in Omaha, the daughter of Ezra and Fannie (Bryant) Forrester. She lived most of her adult life in the St. Charles and Brooklyn, Wis., areas. Verdeen married Ralph Shounk on Dec. 22, 1945, in Illinois and he preceded her in death in 1997 at which time she moved to Evansville, before living with her daughter in Brooklyn. Her favorite hobbies were reading and crocheting and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Lynn (Nick) Johnson of Brooklyn, Wis.; her five grandsons, Phillip Johnson, Scott (Jennifer) Johnson, Keith Johnson, Jeff (Heather) Johnson, Jared (Trinity) Johnson and granddaughter, Kendra (Jim) Stoltz, all of Brooklyn, Wis., 18 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Noah, Natalie, Keegan, Aden, Linsie, Isabelle, Tylee, Halle, Sadee, Hanna, Maria, Samantha, Ashley, Jolie, Bryce, Zach, Brittany; two brothers, Charles Forrester of Spring Valley, Calif., Gary Forrester of Moultrie Ga.; two sisters, Deanna Barger of Elwood, Judith Haenel of Phoenix, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; many friends; and several honorary family members.

Verdeen was loved dearly and will be missed deeply by all who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; three brothers, Eugene, Ray and Ronnie.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the Ward Funeral Home in Evansville, Wis., with the Rev. Dr. Luke Bocher officiating. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Hazel Ridge Cemetery in Omaha.
