OBITUARY: George E. Flahardy

George E. Flahardy, 86, of Shawneetown, passed away 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado.

He was born on Dec. 15, 1926, in Ridgway, the son of Robert and Orey (Cobbles) Flahardy. George Earl married Mary Ellen Seely on March 5, 1949, and she preceded him in death on March 23, 2002. He was a World War Two Army veteran.

George is survived by four daughters, Norma and Wayne Jones of Shawneetown, Bertie Brooks of Fairfield, Becky and Johnnie Christian of Holly Grove, Ark., Roberta Thompson of Galatia; seven sons, Gary and Cathy Flahardy of Shawneetown, Lawrence Martin of Shawneetown, Monty and Twilla Flahardy of Shawneetown, Danny and Linda Martin of Sesser, Mike and Judy Flahardy of West Frankfort, Rex and Scarlet Flahardy of Harrisburg, Clifford and Lynn Flahardy of Pittsburgh; and 30 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one daughter, Mary Lou Martin; one son, John Martin Jr.; three brothers; and three sisters.

Visitation for George will be held 11 a.m. to service time at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Church of God in Shawneetown. The Rev. Randy Vaughn will be officiating the service. Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown with military rites by the Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown will be charge of arrangements.
