Kathleen M. Owens

Kathleen M. Owens, 85, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:45 a.m., Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Kathleen had been a seamstress at the sewing factory. She was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Du Quoin and had played the saxophone for many years in the church band.

She was born Feb. 21, 1928 at Jackson County, Ill., the daughter of Ogle and Ethel Mae (Tyler) Franklin.

She married Melvin Bird and he preceded her in death. She then married Delmar L. Owens Sr. on March 3, 1989 at Du Quoin, Ill. and he preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 2011.

She is survived by five step children - Delmar 'Vernie' Owens, Diana Hargis, Donna 'Lynn' Crews, Martha Curry and husband Bob and Michelle Lyerla, two sisters - Fern Hamburger and Fay Franklin, both of Du Quoin, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers - Benjamin Franklin and Glen Franklin and one sister - Norma Franklin.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Gospel Assembly Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Gaylen Holden and Rev. Dennis Fitzsimmons officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday.

Burial will be in the Mueller Hill Cemetery at Pinckneyville.

Friends may make memorials to the Gospel Assembly Church in Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
