OBITUARY: Georgia Ruth Whitlock James

Georgia Ruth Whitlock James, 98, of Raleigh, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado.

She was born on October 7, 1914, in Raleigh to the late Guy and Florence (Martin) Whitlock. On May 4, 1934, she married Howard C. James and he preceded her in death in May of 1973.

She was a member of the Raleigh Baptist Church for over 80 years and taught Sunday School for 73 years. She was the oldest resident living in Raleigh and the oldest living member of Raleigh Baptist Church. She was a very dedicated lady who studied her Bible every day. She completed and received her diploma and class ring (which she was very proud of) when she was in her 60's.

Survivors include: A daughter Ona (Charles) Maloney of Raleigh, and Dennis James; four grandchildren, Chuck Maloney, Ron (Brenda) Maloney, Angie (Rich) Heitmeyer and Steve (Vurla) James; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Maloney, Jennifer (Brad) Dickerson, Ethan Maloney, Abigail (Mike) Herr, Austin (Amber) Maloney, Annie Maloney, Emily Maloney, Justin Maloney, April (Jason) Agin, Alix and Kate Heitmeyer, Meranda James (Bradley) Parker and Afton James; five great-great-grandchildren, Camryn, Carter, Leslie Maloney and Preston Parker; four stepgrandchildren, Autumn Grace, Jonaha and Oliver Parker.

She was preceded in death by a son Danny James; three grandchildren, Ed Maloney, Randy Maloney and Joshua James; two sisters, Miona (Birtus) Bruce and Jenny (Woodrow) Irvin; and two brothers, Stalnly (Margaret) Whitlock and G.M. (Jackie) Wesley.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Watson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Raleigh Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, until service time of 1 p.m. at the Watson Funeral Home.
