OBITUARY: Alvin D. Short

Alvin D. Short, 84, Harrisburg passed away 2:50 a.m. Wednesday March 27, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

He was born April 25, 1928, in DuQuoin to Albert and Emma Lane Short. Alvin was an Army veteran and fought in the Korean War. He was an avid golfer and played every day when able. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lighthouse Baptist Church.

Alvin is survived by three children, Doug Short and Janice and Robert Travelstead all of Harrisburg and Roger Nebe of Texas; two sisters, Clara Sisky of Harrisburg and Venita Webb of Bradley; six grandchildren, Tyler Short, Callie Short of Travelstead, Keri Anderson, Keli Huckabey, Garth Myers and Taylor Myers; and one great-grandchild, Dawson Huckabey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Everet, Albert (Bud) and Claude Short; six sisters, Ema Mitchell, Mildred Leverett, Ruth Hildreth, Ruby Nolen, Eva Bowles and Mable Short.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Poirot officiating and burial in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
