James William Slapak

James William Slapak, 63, of Du Bois, left this earth at 5:02 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at his residence.

Jim had worked for Consol Coal Mine for 28 and a half years and had worked for Mach Mining in Johnston City for seven years. Jim was a registered land surveyor and had run his own business for several years, Slapak Surveying. Jim was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the NRA and had a great interest in guns, believing that everyone should have the right to protect themselves, their family and their possessions. Jim was a great husband and a nice guy, always willing to help his co-workers and friends. He loved animals and collected knives. This world was a better place for having Jim in it.

He was born July 21, 1949 at Benld, Ill., the son of William James and Ann (Tenikat) Slapak.

He married Jennifer M. Mitchell on March 2, 1974 at Godfrey, Ill. and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Bois, one brother - Michael Slapak and wife Fran of South Carolina, and two nieces - Julie and Karen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Don Bullard officiating.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the NRA and will be accepted at the funeral home.
