OBITUARY: Harold Edward Harris
Harold Edward Harris, age 97, of Carrier Mills passed away at 12:45 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at his home with his family at his side.
He was born in Carrier Mills on Jan. 5, 1916, to the late Herman and Nell Welborn Harris. He was married to the former Beatrice Simpson in 1942 and she survives. He was the Director of the Army Engineer Depot in Granite City and also worked at the Luria Brothers in Granite City. He was a Army Veteran and was the oldest living WWII veteran in Saline County until his death. He was a member of the Carrier Mills American Legion Post 364, a lifetime member of Moose Lodge No. 272 in Granite City.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; two daughters, Beverly Ham of Granite City and Debbie McVey of Carrier Mills; six grandchildren, Kim (Nick) Dochwat, Tim (Debbie) Seebold, Shane (Stacy) Deaton, Erinn McVey, Kyle McVey and Christian McVey.
Seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Boneva Whitney; and two sons-in-law - Ralph David Ham and Robyn McVey.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with Pastor Biff Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery with full military rites performed by the Carrier Mills and Harrisburg American Legions.
