Salvage business flourishing in Carrier Mills

Thornton Auto Crushing LLC have found a demand for their services since opening in Carrier Mills on July 24 of last year.

Managed by Mark and Yuvonne Thornton, the business employs a total of six workers, two of whom are part-time.

Located at 5875 US Highway 45 South, this is one of three salvage yards owned and operated by Don Thornton.

"We get a lot of business from Southern Illinois," said office manger Yuvonne Thornton.

"Don was driving through Carrier Mills one day, saw the property for sale and decided it would be a good location.

Business is exceeding our expectations at this site."

The other two salvage yards are located in Sturgis, Ky., and Morganfield, Ky.

The salvage yard will not accept glass, paper, newspaper, televisions, plastics or tires. Wheel rims are accepted if the tire is removed.

All other scrap material including electronic devices are welcome.

Hour of operation are 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to noon Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
