OBITUARY: Novella Sherrod

Novella Sherrod, age 83, of Harrisburg, passed away 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at Shawnee Rose Care Center in Harrisburg.

Novella was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Stonefort to the late the Rev. Lee and Inez (Cole) Dunn. On Nov. 29, 1952, she married Richard Melvin Sherrod and he preceded her in death June 18, 1996. Novella was retired from the Choate Mental Health Facility as an account technician, and previously worked at the A.L. Bowen Children's Center. She was a member of the Dorrisville Baptist Church where she worked in the church nursery and preschool for over 30 years.

Surviving family members include her daughter, Nancy Ammon and husband John of Herrin; granddaughter, Terri Reeves of Huntingdon, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Maggie, and Will; brother, Jim Dunn and wife Carolyn of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David Sherrod; and sister, Leanna Hicks.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Reed Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Dewayne Taylor and the Rev. Steve Dunn will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Reed Funeral Chapel. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Dorrisville Baptist Church WMU.
