OBITUARY: Sibyl L. Davis

Sibyl L. Davis, 94, passed away at 4 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at her home in Galatia.

She was born Jan. 13, 1918, to Justin and Minnie Reynolds of Brushy Township. Sibyl married John W. Davis in 1936 and had two children, Jerry William and Martha Lynn.

Sibyl was a homemaker, a member of the Galatia Baptist Church and an avid reader. She and her husband, John, were an integral part of the Village of Galatia for over 65 years. Whether it was making barbecue for the Lions Club or donating Christmas trees to the Baptist Church, John and Sibyl could always be counted on to support the community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Martha Lynn (Davis) Raben; brothers, Paul and Richard Reynolds; and sisters, Leah Riegel and Dorothy Elder.

She is survived by her son; Jerry William (Betty) Davis; grandchildren, Andrea Boyett, Angela McAlister, Joe (Tracy) Raben, Leigh (Nathan) Betts; great-grandchildren, Brittany Boyett, Troy McAlister, Hannah McAlister, Nash Raben and Parker Betts; and many very special nieces and nephews.

Sibyl was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, and will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation is 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. Graveside services will follow at Lindale Memorial Gardens in Eldorad.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Galatia Baptist Church or the Galatia Public Library. Envelopes will be available at the Sloan Funeral Home.
