Trooper Kerry Sutton promoted to Sergeant rank
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Illinois State Police announced Tuesday the promotion of Trooper Kerry Sutton to the rank of Sergeant.
Sergeant Sutton recently participated in a Promotional Ceremony in Springfield; however, he assumed the duties of his new position on April 16, 2012. He is currently assigned to the ISP Director's Office as Legal Counsel.
Following graduation from the Illinois State Police Academy in 2006, Sergeant Sutton was assigned to District 12 Patrol in Effingham. In 2009, Sergeant Sutton joined the ISP Director's Office legal staff as the Department's Freedom of Information Officer, prior to assuming his current position as Legal Counsel.
Originally from Norris City, Illinois, the son of Richard and Mary Beth Sutton, Sergeant Sutton graduated from N.C.O.E. High School in 1987. He completed a Bachelor's Degree in Speech Communications in 1991 from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, and received his Juris Doctorate in 1995 from the Southern Illinois University School of Law in Carbondale.
Prior to joining the Illinois State Police, he served two terms as the White County State's Attorney.
Sergeant Sutton currently resides in rural White County with his wife Gretchen and children, Nolan, age 14; Wil, age 9; and Olivia, age 3.
Sergeant Sutton looks forward to serving the Illinois State Police in his new position.
