OBITUARY: John R. Thomas
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[John R. Thomas, 90, Harrisburg, died 10:20 a.m. Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Saline Care Center in Carrier Mills.
He was born Dec. 1, 1921, in Carrier Mills, to William and Mary (McCutcheon) Thomas. He was married to Shirley Mullinix Feb. 27, 1945, and she preceded him in death June 26, 1999.
He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was an electrician repairman for 40 years with Sahara Coal Company. He was a Baptist by faith and was a member of American Legion Post No. 167 in Harrisburg.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Jess) Agin of Cottage Hills and Carolyn (Darol) Beal of Harrisburg; two brothers, Donald Thomas of Harrisburg and Norman Thomas of Elcentral, Calif; Virginia Kingston, Harrisburg; six grandchildren Darrell Beal, Johnthon Beal, Erin Feazel, Michael Agin, Jeffrey Agin and Becky Simmons; eight grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, George Thomas.
Funeral Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Harl Cockrum officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home starting at 9:30 a.m.
Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills with military honors by the Carrier Mills and Harrisburg American Legion posts.
The family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
