University Women to hold fundraiser

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Saline County University Women are holding their sixth annual Cinco de Mayo fundraiser at Morello's Pizza and Grill 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m Friday.

"The Saline County University Women is an organization made up of local women who have obtained a minimum of a bachelor's degree," said member of the group Dr. Verlinda Henshaw.

She said the women meet monthly throughout the winter months. The solitary goal of the group is to award four $1,000 college scholarships each year to high school senior girls who plan to attend Southeastern Illinois College. Scholarship recipients are selected from the four county high schools based on academic excellence and financial need.

The women in the group are hoping to see a big turnout at this year's fundraiser. In the past, the group has held St. Patrick's Day parties, a Valentine's Dance and a Halloween party, but they are hoping the pre-Cinco de Mayo fiesta will be a big hit this year.

This annual party is the only fundraiser the women hold each year to fund the scholarships.

The Old School Band will be performing and appetizers will be served. A cash bar will also be available.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door. All proceeds will go directly to providing high school women in Saline County with college scholarships.
