Obituary: Carolyn Gail Hill
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Carolyn Gail Hill, 63, passed peacefully on April 26, 2012, at her home in Galatia.
Gail was born on Sept. 25, 1948, in Charleston, Mo., to John H. and Fredia Williams of Harrisburg.
Gail graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1966, and from Southeastern Illinois College, Harrisburg, in 1968 with an associate in arts degree and then graduated from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
Gail was a teacher for over 35 years in the Equality and Galatia school districts at the elementary and high school levels. Gail was a previous girls' softball coach and Scholar Bowl coach at Galatia High School.
Gail was a board member of the Galatia Public Library, and a board member of the Durham Cemetery. Gail was from a farming family and a 4-H volunteer,
Gail was Baptist by faith and a member of Long Branch Baptist Church. She was also a member of Eastern Star.
Gail was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her husband and grandkids.
Gail is survived by Roger Hill, her husband of 16 years.
She was the mother of David Hale (Jennifer) of Galatia. She was the stepmother of Scott (Veronick), Shane (Megan) and David (Erin) Hill.
She was the sister of Sharon Sanders (Bill) of Shawneetown, Mike Williams of Harrisburg and Garry Williams (Katherine) of Equality.
She was the daughter-in-law of Helen Jones of Marion and sister-in-law to Gary Hill (Paula) of Marion, Steve Hill (Nancy) of Princeton, Ind., Barbara Disney of Evansville, Ind., and Wayne (Charlene) Hale of Harrisburg.
Gail is also survived by her grandchildren, Taylor, Trevor and Tristen Hale of Galatia; stepgrandchildren, Samuel, Dylan, Mason, Madeline, Brenna and Collin; nephew, Billy Sanders of Equality; and best friends, Betty Davis of Galatia and Ladonna Triplett of Eldorado.
Gail was preceded in death by her father, John H. Williams; and husband, Bruce Hale.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia.
Funeral services will be at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2012.
Burial will be in Durham Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
