Obituary: Velma Victoria 'Sis' Darnell

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Velma "Sis" Victoria Darnell, 76, of Shawneetown, passed away at her home at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012.

She was born into a large family on March 9, 1936, in Shawneetown, the daughter of Charles Boulds and Opal Brison Maynard. She married Chester A. "Checker" Darnell in April 14, 1952.

Sis was a very active member of the Calvary's Promise Church where she had many friends and extended family. Also she worked at Gillio's Pizza for many years.

Sis is survived by her loving husband, Checker Darnell of Shawneetown; three sons, Rodger D. and Sandra Darnell of New Haven, Michael L. and Tina Darnell of Rensselaer, Ind., Randall E. And Sharon Darnell of Chesterton, Ind.; one sister, Doris F. "Tiny" and Gene Dodd of Shawneetown; three brothers, Harrison T. Tucker of Evansville, Ind., Charles R. "Bob" and Mary Jane Tucker of Eldorado, Lewis "Fred" and Esther Tucker of Equality; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; and five brothers.

Visitation for Sis was held fro 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Funeral was at the funeral chapel at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012, with the Rev. James R. Hubbard officiating and burial at Hogan Cemetery near Shawneetown.
