Obituary: Madeline Holmes

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Madeline Holmes, 88, Carrier Mills, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 23, 1923, in Saline County to the late Fred and Effie Allard Goolsby Younger. On May 1, 1939, she married Walter Holmes Sr., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1996.

She is survived by two daughters, Phoebe Collins of Ocala, Fla. and Mary Ann and her husband, Phil Craig of Carrier Mills; two sons, Walter Jr. and his wife Barbara Holmes of Harrisburg and J.W. and his wife, Jennie Holmes of Carrier Mills; 10 grandchildren, Greg Collins, Don Collins, Vicki Writt, Kathy Hudson, Tina Williams, Kim Graves, Rick Holmes, Tammy Richey, Curtis Holmes and Carmen Rees; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Gary Lee Collins; son-in-law, Dale Collins; daughter-in-law, Diane Holmes; two brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Gary Graves officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the funeral hour. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.
