Deputies arrested Cody Jared Hargrove, 26, 1455 Pearce Road, Equality, 3:35 p.m. Friday. He remains held at the Saline County Detention Center pending extradition to Indiana.
At 3:03 p.m. Jan. 20 Saline County Central Dispatch received a warrant for Hargrove's arrest and Deputies Steve Sloan and Mike Jones went to Hargrove's home which is an Equality address, but within Saline County. They served the warrant on Hargrove and took him to the Saline County Detention Center without incident.
The robbery has been under investigation by Mt. Vernon Police since Dec. 2 and involved police agencies in three states.
On Dec. 2 a masked man displayed a handgun and took an undetermined amount of medications from the Mount Vernon Pharmacy, according to a news release from Mt. Vernon Police Chief Grant Beloat.
Police K-9 units tracked the man who fled on foot to a block west of the business where the dogs lost the scent. Police believed the man got into a vehicle at that point and fled.
Over the next several weeks Mount Vernon Police continued to investigate and followed leads that led them to two suspects, Hargrove and Anthony J. Carriola of Lodi, Wis.
Mount Vernon officers learned Jan. 11 Carriola was the suspect in an armed robbery of a pharmacy in Wisconsin that was under investigation by the Sauk Prairie, Wis., Police Department and the two departments worked together on the case.
The investigation culminated in an arrest warrant being issued for Carriola for the Wisconsin robbery and Jan. 12 Carriola was arrested in Dane County Wisconsin on the warrant, according to the release.
Mount Vernon Police interviewed Carriola and served a search warrant to obtain a DNA sample from him.
During the interview Carriola admitted his involvement in the robbery and provided information that allowed police to recover the gun used in the Mount Vernon Pharmacy robbery, according to the release.
Carriola also provided information implicating Hargrove as being involved in the Mount Vernon robbery.
Officers served an arrest warrant on Carriola while he was being held in the Sauk County Jail pending the Wisconsin charges and issued the warrant for Hargrove's arrest Friday.
