Son accused of stealing mother's safe, throwing it into pond

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Saline County Sheriff&#39;s Deputies arrested an Eldorado man accused of stealing a safe and all-terrain vehicle from his mother, according to a sheriff&#39;s report.

Deputies arrested Michael Anthony Phillips, 18, 2:30 p.m. Jan. 17 on a charge of theft over $300.

Deputy Danny Dooley was dispatched to 975 Goshen Trail Road, Eldorado, and spoke to Laura Hardy. Hardy told Dooley glass had been broken from the back door, her bedroom door had been broken into and a Sentry safe containing cash and valuables was missing, according to the report.

Hardy told Dooley she had moved Phillips, her son, out of the house because he had been stealing money and items to salvage for money from the house, the report indicates.

Dooley found Phillips at 7 Womack St., Eldorado, and questioned him at the Eldorado Police Department with Chief Shannon Deuel.

Phillips said at about 1 p.m. he went to his mother&#39;s house, broke into the home, took the safe and loaded it into an ATV, drove to 1795 Garner Road and threw the safe and some of the contents into a pond, according to the report.

Deputies recovered the safe and its contents from the pond.
