Obituary: Don Everett Shaw Malone
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Don Everett Shaw Malone, born on May 4, 1918, to Alva Lenox Malone and Irma Marie Shaw (both deceased) passed away on Dec. 27, 2011.
Don lived a long life of 93 years. He was reared by his grandparents Sam and Sara Ellen Malone in the Droit City community of Williamson Co. His siblings who are predeceased were Lucille Malone Abney and John C. Malone.
Don was divorced three times and his lovely wife Marie passed away during his last marriage. He had no children, but is survived by various nieces and nephews, Pat Abney of Anchorage, Alaska, Scott Abney of Lafayette, Ind., Sam Abney of Galatia, Julie Malone Anderson of Marengo; and 10 great-nieces and nephews.
His living cousins are Mary J. Roberts Thorton, Bill Campbell, Dorothy Malone Edwards, Flora Roberts Endrezzi, Karn Malone Pyle, Donna Shaw Pogue, Sidonna Shaw Southard, Lucy Shaw Swiney, Suenell Shaw Watts and Jerry Copper.
He is also survived by his caregiver, Tom Schwartz of San Diego, Calif., and his friends who loved him dearly.
Don retired from Marine Corps in 1957 as a master sergeant in the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, serving in World War II, the Korean conflict and NAS North Island. He was very proud of his service to our country and had many stories to tell. Don was also a lifetime member of the American Legion, Ca, Post No. 537.
Don lived in his home in Chula Vista, Calif., for many years. He was very independent until the age of 91. He was then taken to Windsor Gardens of San Diego located in National City, Calif., where he was well taken care of. Although he had no family in San Diego, only friends, everyone at Windsor Gardens took great care of him. They fell in love with his charming ways, and his little sayings that he was known for, like "you be sweet and I be pretty." Don has left his mark in this world and in the hearts of many. He was a great man, full of perseverance and strength. After Christmas, Don got sick and was placed in San Diego Hospice, a wonderful organization that was very caring and good to him in the last stages of his life.
Don was a part of Boy's Town when he was growing up and has always had a special place in his heart for the Boys and Girls club.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at the Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with visitation from noon until the funeral hour. Dr. Harrison Peyton will officiate with burial in the Dillingham Cemetery.
Military rites will be accorded by the Harrisburg and Carrier Mills American Legions and the Marion Honor Guard.
