Obituary: Betty J. Seely
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Betty J. Seely, 88, a resident of Ridgway in the Pond Settlement community, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 in Evansville, Ind.
Betty was born on the family farm about 5 miles east of Ridgway on June 25, 1923, to the late John and Hannah (Doherty) Duffy. She graduated from Ridgway High School in 1940 and then on Dec. 31, 1942, in Jackson, Miss., married the late Ernest T. Seely Sr. Betty and Thad, as most knew him, farmed all their lives on the family farm, Betty also worked as a secretary in the insurance industry. Betty was always an active person, as she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Gallatin Co. Home Extension, Altar Society, Women's Auxiliary of the Ridgway American Legion, Gallatin County Historical Society and the Golden Circle in Ridgway. She was a very faithful member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Pond Settlement where she raised her family. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed in our area.
Betty is survived by four sons, E.T. (Barbara) Seely Jr. of Eldorado, Arthur (Doris) Seely of LaVergne, Tenn., Mike (Jodi) Seely of Herrin and Donald (Sharon) Seely of Ridgway, along with a daughter-in-law, Becky Seely of Ridgway; 13 grandchildren, Kevin (Mindi) Seely, Lori (Tony) Wargel, Kristina (fiancé, John Hendrix) Seely, Daniel (Cassie) Seely, Liz Seely, Susannah (William) Charleton, Erica Seely, Dennis Seely, Christy (Danny) McGriff, April (Scott) Parker, Ashley (Jason) Rimini, Kaci Woodcock and Corie Woodcock; 11 great-grandchildren, Beau and Courtney McGriff, Bryon, Nicholas and Grace Wargel, Breanna and Bethany Seely, Megan Parker, Khloe and Kallie Jones and Preston Seely.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Dwight Seely; two brothers, Martin and Steve Duffy; five sisters, Lucille Lawler, Evadeen Coleman, Geneva Scates, Regina Drone and Ruth McGuire.
Visitation for Betty will be at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 4:30 to 8 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, where a prayer service will be said at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass for Betty will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011 at St. Patrick's Church, Pond Settlement, with her nephew, Monsignor Joe Lawler celebrating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Golden Circle in Ridgway or to the St. Patrick's Cemetery.
