Obituary: Evelyn Irene Davis

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Evelyn Irene Davis passed away 9:12 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, in Riverside Hospital in Kankakee.

Funeral services for Mrs. Davis will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville with the Rev. John Neace officiating. Burial will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery in Metropolis. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home in Goreville on Thursday. Memorial donations are suggested to either Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Heather Treat Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be sent care of Blue Funeral Home, P.O. Box 411, Marion, Ill. 62959.

Evelyn was born on April 24, 1921, in Marion to the Rev. J. Othmar and Verda Mae (Farthing) Hill. The family moved to Carrier Mills while she was very young. She went through grade school in Carrier Mills, then, after her father accepted the pastorate of the First Church of God in Metropolis, the family relocated there; and in Metropolis she completed her high school education. She married Major Russell Parmley in 1941 and together they had three children, Russell Lee, Sharon Kaye and Gary Don. Major passed away on Dec. 7, 1975. She later married Raymond Davis in 1980, who also precedes her.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her sons, Russ and Jeanne Parmley of Bourbonnais and Gary and Cindy Parmley of Goreville; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; niece, Sharon and Jerry Logacy of St. Anne; and nephew, Roger Hill of Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Major; husband, Raymond; daughter, Sharon Kaye and brother, Lee Hill and his wife, Velma.

She accepted the Lord when she was 16 years of age and served in the church during her active years. Evelyn was a member of the music department, taught Sunday School classes to students from nursery age up to and including the senior citizen members of the congregation. She completed many other duties within the church as the opportunities presented themselves.

Evelyn would like to be remembered as a true believer in God; hoping that sometime throughout her life, she left enough influence to cause someone to be the same.
