Obituary: Earl Isaac George

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Earl Isaac George, 95, of Harrisburg, passed away at 1:38 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado.

He was born on January 12, 1916, in Tamaroa, to the late Isaac Benton and Nancy (Johnson) George. On September 23, 1936, he married Mary Agnes Hamp, and she preceded him in death on July 31, 1995.

Earl was a retired coal miner and custodian at Unit 3 District schools. He was a member of St. Joseph&#39;s Catholic Church and a World War II Army veteran. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, member of Operating Engineers 318 in Marion, the American Legion of Rosiclare Post 571 and was the resident council president at Fountainview Nursing Home.

Surviving family members include two children, Stephen W. George and wife Linda of Harrisburg, and Judith Ann Hamp of Herod; two grandchildren, Michelle Wallace and husband Denny of Harrisburg, and Stephen Nicholas George and fiance Andrea Wiggins; four great-grandchildren, Emma and Easton Wallace, and Hysley George and Isabella Brooks; two brothers, Paul George and wife Mona of O&#39;Fallon, and Kenneth O. George of Pinkneyville; one sister, Eula Mae Buza and husband "Bud"; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, David Earl George at birth in 1955; son-in-law, Andrew Hamp; brother, William L. George; three sisters, Eva Watts, Lola Keller and Mildred George.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday Oct. 22, 2011, at St. Joseph&#39;s Catholic Church in Elizabethtown. Father Ignatius Okonkwo will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph&#39;s Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Rosiclare American Legion. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel, with Knights of Columbus Chalice Service at 7 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family through the obituary page at the internet site www.reedfuneralchapel.com
