Pharoah Newton sentenced to 60 years for murder of Frances Wolf
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pharoah Newton, 18, has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for the murder of an Evansville, Ind., woman, according to reports from the Evansville Courier Press.
Newton would not be eligible for release until 30 years, according to the newspaper.
Newton was found guilty of the murder by beating and stabbing of Frances Wolf, 79, Newton's father's landlady.
The murder happened between 11 p.m. Oct. 1, 2010, and early morning Oct. 2, 2010. Wolf's van was found in Union County, Ky., burned, several days later. Newton's mother, Cassandra Smith, testified she, a friend and her son drove it there to dispose of it since she knew her son was in trouble, according to the Courier Press.
A bag of bloody clothing and a knife with Wolf's blood and Newton's DNA that had been discarded on a Harrisburg road, DNA evidence from the murder scene and Newton's possession of Wolf's checks that had been forged to a name on an altered identification card also in Newton's possession were introduced as evidence, according to the newspaper.
Circuit Court Magistrate Kelli Fink sentenced Newton.
