Obituary: Helen Hicks
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Helen Hicks, 83, of Golconda, passed away Oct. 16, 2011, at Hardin County Hospital.
She was born Oct. 4, 1928, to Cora and Vaughn Parkinson. She was married to her late husband Kestner K. Hicks on Oct. 20, 1944. Helen was the mother of two, grandmother of four, and great-grandmother of eight. She was a gardener, farmer's wife, owner of the Rosebud Grocery Store and cook. Helen's favorite memories were of her grandchildren and Hereford cattle. Many a friend enjoyed her blackberry cobblers, plum jellies and famous fried chicken.
Helen is survived by her son, Kenneth Hicks and his daughter, Michelle (Terry) Stearns; daughter-in-law Georgia Hicks and her two sons Larry (Cheryl) Hicks and Herman Hicks; eight great-grandchildren; and sister Welda Harding.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, Phillip Hicks; brothers Archie Parkinson and Laurel (Bud) Parkinson; and sister Allene Jennings.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 20, 2011, at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda. Interment will follow at Waltersburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at the funeral home.
