Obituary: Thomas R. 'Tommy' Bennett

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Thomas R. "Tommy" Bennett, 78, Harrisburg, passed away at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at the Shawnee Rose Care Center, Harrisburg.

He was born on Sept. 26, 1933, in Eldorado to the late Emery E. and Pearline (Caraway) Bennett. On July 19, 1963, he married Frances "Bunny" Humm, and she survives. He was a retired coal miner and an Army veteran. He was a member of the Equality Masonic Lodge and the Equality American Legion.

Surviving family members include his wife, Frances "Bunny" Bennett of Harrisburg; a son, John Bennett and wife Jennifer of Carbondale; and two grandchildren, Ian and Connor Bennett of Carbondale.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two half-brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion, VFW and the National Guard. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel with Masonic rites conducted by the Equality Masonic Lodge at noon.
