Obituary: Bonnie Chancy Tarr
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Bonnie Chancy Tarr, 82, of Urbana, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at the Champaign Urbana Regional Rehab Center. She was born Sept. 15, 1929, the daughter of Lorene and Louie Chancy and grew up in Harrisburg. She married James Tarr at Pontiac, Mich. in September 1948. He survives.
Other survivors include her brother, Donald Chancy of Gadsden, Ala.; three sons, Robert Stuart (Nina) of Urbana; Douglas (Ann) of Temecula, Calif.; James Kevin (Claudette) of Traverse City, Mich.; and daughter Julie (Steven Lee) of Westfield, N.J.; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her parents and two brothers preceded Bonnie in death.
She was a graduate of Pontiac (Michigan) High School and attended the University of Illinois. Her professional career was in clothing and fabrics. She was an assistant in the costume shop for the University of Illinois Opera Workshop and a costumer for the 1967 New England Conservatory of Music production of The Coronation of Poppea, at Ipswich, Mass. She was the co-owner of Dominique, Ltd. woman's clothing store in Lincoln Square, Urbana, and later fashion director for Van-Law Carol clothing store in the Round Barn Center, Champaign. She was a founding member on the Board of Directors of the Champaign-Urbana Convention and Visitors Bureau, serving from 1985-1993.
Bonnie was elected to two terms (1985-1993) as Democratic Alderwoman on the Urbana City Council from the 7th Ward. She was a member of the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Guild and served on the board of directors. Bonnie was a long time member of and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at Morgan Memorial Homes, 1304 Regency Drive W. Savoy. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church, 602 W. Green St. Urbana, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. A private burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery.
