Obituary: Catherine S. Stanelle

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Catherine S. Stanelle, 97, of Shawneetown, passed away at 4:25 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg.

She was born on Oct. 25, 1913, in Shawneetown to Harvey and Susan (Seaton) Stubbs. Catherine graduated from the Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, Mo. She also served her country during World War Two in the Navy Nurse Corps. and later was a registered nurse at the Shawneetown Medical Center.

Catherine married Dr. Wilbur Frank Stanelle, M.D,. on Feb. 9, 1964, and he preceded her in death on July 3, 2001.

She was a member of the Shawneetown First Baptist Church.

Catherine is survived by her sister, Marie Stubbs of Shawneetown; one brother, Thomas Stubbs of Washington D.C.; two nieces, Nannie L. Dietz of Carmi and Betty R. Rister of Evansville, Ind.; four nephews, Finch Stubbs of Harrisburg, Donald Scherrer of Tempe, Ariz., Dennis Scherrer of Shawneetown and Tommy Stubbs Jr. of Washington D.C.; and two caregivers, Jamie Oldham and Daisy Hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Mayme Scherrer; five brothers, Louis Seaton, Joe, Finch, Elvis and Theadore Stubbs; nephew, Joe H. Stubbs; and a niece, Joyce Sturgill.

Visitation for Catherine will be held from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at the Shawneetown First Baptist Church. Pastor Jack Hall will be officiating.
