Obituary: Donald M. Roberts

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Donald M. Roberts, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away on Aug. 23, 2011, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

He was born on Nov. 4, 1923, in Manistee, Mich., to William S. and Eleanor Hayden Roberts. On Nov. 11, 1953, Mr. Roberts married Patricia Ann Cambron in Urbana.

Mr. Roberts was a World War II Navy veteran serving on PC1206 as a sonar man in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. He started college at Michigan State University before entering active duty in the Navy, and after the war, he graduated from Eastern Illinois University at Charleston with a degree in industrial arts. He was an investigator with the U.S. government and then was a field representative with the Social Security office in Harrisburg until his retirement in 1980.

He was a member of the Harrisburg First Presbyterian Church and served as a choir member and deacon. He was a member of the Town and Country Lions Club, the Barbershoppers, and was a life member of the Harrisburg American Legion Post No. 167.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, James H. Roberts.

Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Patricia Cambron Roberts of Olney; two sons, Charles C. (Barbara) Roberts of Olney and James M. (Tammie) Roberts of Owensboro, Ky.; and daughter, Donna (Larry) Greer of Harrisburg. He is also survived by his younger brother, William M. (Jean) Roberts of Roberts. He is survived by seven grandchildren, Catherine (John) Parks of New Mexico, Suzanne Roberts of New York, Christina Roberts of Chicago, Joseph Donald Roberts of Owensboro, and Dustin, Danielle and Dresdyn Bramlet of Eldorado. He is survived by one great-grandson, Pierce Jonathan Parks of New Mexico.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at the Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Judith Beyler will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg with graveside military rites by the Harrisburg American Legion VFW and the National Guard. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Harrisburg; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
