Obituary: Elizabeth R. 'Bettye' Segraves
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Elizabeth R. Segraves, "Bettye" (nee Goss), 86, Chicago, formerly of Hessville, Ind., entered into the gates of heaven on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelley Crosby of Chicago; four grandchildren, Megan (Chris Hayes) Crosby of Chicago, Erin (Hunter Williams) Crosby of Brooklyn, N.Y., Scott (Kelly) Crosby of Avon, Ind. and Jerry Crosby of Crown Point, Ind.; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Bailey Crosby; brother-in-law, Clarence (Josie) Seagraves; several nieces and nephews; and loving friends, Sally Selwan and John Buranosky.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Charles H. Segraves, Jr.; one son, Richard Segraves; parents, Lorenzo and Neva Goss; and brother, Lorenzo Dow Goss, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville), Ind., with Pastor James Thomson officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond. Friends were invited to meet with the family from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011 at Bocken Funeral Home.
Bettye was a resident of the Hessville section of Hammond for 60 years before moving to Chicago in 2006 to be near her family. She was a faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the "Come Join Us" Sunday school class and the Eunice Circle. Bettye loved to paint and enjoyed making crafts with her late husband. She enjoyed the theater and loved to sing with her grandchildren. Bettye was a loving mother a devoted grandmother and a dear friend to many.
