Obituary: Zella Mae Davis Barnard

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Zella Mae Davis Barnard was born on July 8, 1922, to Ranzy L. and Anna L. (Simmons) Davis.

Zella departed this earth on Aug. 5, 2011, at the Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado.

Zella was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred, in 1986, and daughter, Arvetta, in 2003. Her brothers, Zenas Davis, Everett (Tom) Davis, Lewis Davis, Lloyd (Jim) Davis and Earl Davis; and sister, Haseltine Bascom, also preceded her in death. All of her siblings&#39; spouses preceded her in death except one sister-in-law, Lucille Davis, who still survives.

Zella started her married life with Winfred Barnard on Sept. 7, 1940. Zella and Winfred owned and operated a trucking business with her two brothers, Tom and Jim, and later with her nephew, Harold Davis. Zella was the bookkeeper for the business for 48 years. Zella was a member of the Mt. Zion church for about 54 years where she served as a deaconess, Sunday School teacher and pianist/organist.

Zella lived in the Cave-In-Rock area all her life and she and Winfred raised three daughters. The oldest daughter, Arvetta Finefield, was married to Joe Finefield. They are both deceased. Arvetta had three children, a daughter, Kathy Robinson, who resides with her husband, Larry, in Karbers Ridge; a son, Winfred Randy Spivey, who resides with his wife, DeAnn, in Cave-In-Rock, and her youngest son, Billy Joe (Jackie) Spivey Jr. (Jay), who resides with his wife, Jackie, in Channahon. Zella&#39;s great-grandchildren include Kathy&#39;s son, Chris, who has two children, Ruie and Rose, and they reside in Chandler, Ind., Randy&#39;s daughter, Valerie, resides in Harrisburg, and his youngest daughter, Jessica, resides in Cave-In-Rock. Jay&#39;s children, Leann and Allison, reside in Channahon. Zella&#39;s middle child, Marlynn Frailey, resides with her husband, Jim Frailey, in Laramie, Wyo. They have an adopted child, Joanna Carruba, and she has two children, Joey and Kaitlyn. Zella&#39;s youngest daughter, Winnie Oxford, resides in Cave-In-Rock with her husband, Jerry. They have one son, Jason, who was recently married to Dana Siegele, and they reside in Wamego, Kan. Zella also has many nieces, nephews, lifelong friends and nursing home friends who will mourn her passing.

For the past 5.5 years, Zella resided at Fountainview where she was an inspiration to residents and staff. Many of the staff thought of her as a second mother and grandmother and were at her bedside with her family at her passing. Zella was known at the nursing home for her ability to work puzzles. She put together countless numbers of puzzles and gave them as gifts to many of the staff at the nursing home as well as to family members. Many of her puzzles were made into pictures and are hanging in various rooms at the nursing home. While at the nursing home, she read about 100 Christian novels and shared them, as well as her faith, with others at the nursing home. Zella also served on the Fountainview Nursing Home Resident Council Board and was known for playing the most bingo cards at the bingo games.

Funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation, 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011. Both visitation and the funeral service will be held at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-In-Rock.
