Obituary: Larry Flannell

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Larry Gene Flannell, 66, a resident of New Burnside, passed away at 10:32 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2011, at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

Larry was born Aug. 27, 1944, in the Dykersburg community. He was the son of Claude Flannell and Hilda Killman.

Larry was united in marriage to Arlene Emery on July 25, 1969, in New Burnside. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Nathan Flannell and Sumer of McClure and Wesley Flannell of New Burnside; two grandsons, Trenton Flannell and Alex Flannell of McClure; three sisters, Earlene Sullivan of Carrier Mills, Glenda Winters of Carrier Mills and Darla Huff of Big Spring, Texas; three brothers, Gary Flannell of Kennesaw, Ga., Mark Flannell of Sullivan and Paul Flannell of Big Spring, Texas; a sister-in-law, Myrla Keller of Harrisburg; a brother-in-law, Randall Emery of Edinburg, Texas; an aunt and uncle, Barbara and Jerry Enz of Carrier Mills; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Tom and Beulah Killman; paternal grandparents, Ed and Lois Flannell; two brothers, David Flannell and Charles Flannell; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Sullivan and Todd Emery.

Larry was a U.S. Army veteran. He served as a helicopter mechanic from 1965 to 1967 during the Vietnam War.

Larry worked as a water well drill operator for many years for Quentin Richey Drilling Co. He also worked as a test driller for over 25 years for the Sahara Coal Company and later worked in mine land reclamation. Following his retirement from Sahara Coal Company, Larry has worked as a part-time custodian at the New Simpson Hill School.

Larry enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors by working on lawn mowers and small engine projects. He enjoyed "piddling" with tractors. Larry was a member of the Sky Squires R.C. Club.

A graveside service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at the Reynoldsburg Cemetery. The Rev. Darrell Ford will officiate.

Military honors will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post of Vienna.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
